Reeferphobe

A reeferphobe is a person who holds a strong prejudice or irrational fear of cannabis and cannabis users. This fear often goes beyond simple disapproval of cannabis use and manifests as a deeply ingrained negative attitude, sometimes accompanied by discriminatory behavior. The term is a portmanteau of "reefer" (a slang term for cannabis) and "phobe" (short for "phobic," indicating an irrational fear).

Unlike someone who simply disagrees with cannabis legalization or recreational use, a reeferphobe exhibits a more intense and often unreasonable aversion. This aversion can be rooted in misinformation, societal stigma, personal experiences, or a combination of factors. Their views are typically resistant to factual information or reasoned argument.

The term is often used in discussions about the social and political landscape surrounding cannabis, highlighting the significant challenges in overcoming entrenched biases and promoting informed discussions about its potential benefits and risks. It serves as a label to describe the negative attitudes and actions of individuals who actively oppose cannabis use and often engage in stigmatizing rhetoric.
